Live Webinar - Empowering Antibiotic Stewardship: Understanding the Use of Procalcitonin

January 16, 2020

Webinar Description

This webinar will reinforce better antibiotic use and provide strategies to better utilize the biomarker procalcitonin in the most advantageous methods compared to non-specific biomarkers IL-1, IL-6, TNF, leukocytosis, and lactate. The pathophysiology and kinetics will be reviewed, and applied in case studies to demonstrate best use guidelines. Finally, clinical and financial outcomes will be presented so the attendee can appreciate expected benefits of the application of procalcitonin concepts.

Target Audience

Nurses, physician assistants, physicians, emergency responders, physical therapists, patient care assistants, and other healthcare staff

Learning Objectives

  • Identify current biomarkers used in the management of sepsis in bacterial infection.
  • Describe how procalcitonin can aid in severity assessment and evaluation of therapy choices.
  • Restate the role of procalcitonin in antibiotic stewardship.
