Making the Operational, Financial, and Clinical Case for a Robust Sepsis Program & Optimizing Sepsis Documentation for Accurate Reimbursement

Session Descriptions:

This activity includes two sessions from the Sepsis Alliance Summit to meet the minimum time requirement for nursing CE credits.

Making the Operational, Financial, and Clinical Case for a Robust Sepsis Program

In this session, Andre Vovan, MD, MBA, will review key operational, financial, and clinical facts useful for making the case for a robust and scalable sepsis program. He will demonstrate the benefit sepsis programs bring to both the healthcare system and to the community. Dr. Vovan will also provide an overview of key metrics to use when assessing organizational effectiveness, care coordination, and interdisciplinary collaboration of a sepsis program.

Optimizing Sepsis Documentation for Accurate Reimbursement

In this session, Dr. Cindy Hou, Infection Control Officer at Jefferson Health-New Jersey, and Ms. Cecilia Hilerio, Assistant Vice President, CDI, Coding & HIM at Inspira Health, will share the impact of CDI strategies on sepsis. By collaborating between CDI specialists and frontline providers, organizations can more accurately capture the medical comorbidities and complexities of the patients they serve, such as the relationship between organ dysfunction with severe sepsis. Dr. Hou and Ms. Hilerio will provide tips on how to improve documentation and optimize accurate coding, as well as reimbursement in the care of patients with sepsis.

This content was originally presented on 4/6/2022 as part of the Sepsis Alliance Leadership Conference.

Target Audience

Nurses, physicians, pharmacists, emergency responders, healthcare management teams, and other healthcare staff may benefit.
