Meeting the Sepsis CMS Measures

Webinar Description: 

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) launched the core measures for the management of sepsis (SEP-1) on October 1, 2015. This course reviews the history of the measures and overviews CMS’s approach to quality and quality measurement. The data elements and their definitions are presented as well as suggestions to meet the measures.

At the end of the course, the learner should be able to:

  • Review the history of CMS SEP-1 for the management of sepsis

Reena Duseja, MD, MS

Chief Medical Officer for Quality Measurement and Value-Based Incentives Group in the Centers for Clinical Standards and Quality at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services

Dr. Duseja is an emergency medicine physician and prior to coming to CMS, was an Associate Professor at the University of California, where she led quality improvement activities in a large county hospital and was awarded funding by NIH to conduct studies related to improving patient care and value for the health system. As a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania, her research focused on quality of care and unintended consequences of measurement. She received her MS in Health Economics at Wharton, Heath Care Management and Economics, at the University of Pennsylvania.

Sepsis Alliance is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number CEP17068 for 1.6 contact hours.

Other healthcare providers will receive a certificate of attendance for 1.25 contact hours.
