Roche Session: Procalcitonin in Clinical Practice
Procalcitonin (PCT) is a biomarker that can provide clarity when assessing patients diagnosed or at risk of sepsis as PCT values rise in relation to a patient’s response to a bacterial-induced systemic infection. Dr. Justin Choi will describe how PCT has been integrated into clinical practice at New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Hospital and the impact of its implementation on sepsis and antibiotic stewardship management.

Angela has been a Clinical Nurse Specialist for 25 years. The last 13 years, she has been the Clinical Nurse Specialist for Cookeville Regional Medical Center (CRMC) in Cookeville, TN. Angela chairs her hospital’s Sepsis team and had the joy of leading the hospital to be the first in the state of TN to become Sepsis Disease Specific Certified through the Joint Commission. She has also implemented a nurse driven protocol for hemodynamic monitoring at CRMC. Angela has presented at multiple hospitals and conferences on Sepsis and/or Hemodynamics.
Justin Choi, MD
Assistant Professor of Medicine, Weill Cornell Medicine
Dr. Choi is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Section of Hospital Medicine and Division of General Internal Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine. His research focuses on diagnostic test evaluation, biomarkers, and medical decision making in the hospital setting. He is a co-investigator and executive committee member of the Cornell COVID-19 Registry and Fellow in Diagnostic Excellence with the Society to Improve Diagnosis in Medicine. He was awarded a KL2 career development award from the National Institutes of Health/National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences. His project focuses on the prospective development of a predictive model incorporating serum procalcitonin testing in the diagnosis of urinary tract infection among hospitalized older adults.
